How to Request a NEW Due Date on a Chase Credit Card

How to Request a New Due Date on a Chase Credit Card

If your Chase credit card payment date doesn’t line up well with your payday or other monthly bills, you may be able to request a new due date directly through the Chase app. Changing your due date can make it easier to have enough money available when your credit card payment is due.

Here’s how to request a new due date on your Chase credit card.

How to Request a New Due Date on a Chase Credit Card

To request a new due date, start by opening the Chase app and selecting the credit card you want to change.

  1. Open the Chase app.
  2. Tap the credit card you want to change.
  3. Under the card image, tap Manage account.
  4. Scroll down past Card setup and maintenance, Credit management, and Card access and wallets.
  5. Continue scrolling until you reach the Other section.
  6. Tap Requesting new date.

Chase will then display a Before you begin screen explaining how the new due date request can affect your account.

What to Know Before Requesting a New Due Date

Before choosing a new due date, there are a few important things to understand.

Your current payment is still due on the original date listed on your latest statement. The requested change does not take effect immediately. Instead, the new due date begins with your next billing cycle.

Chase also explains that your interest and minimum payment may increase slightly during the transition month. This can happen one time because the billing period is being extended by a few days.

If your card has a promotional APR, the promotional end date may shift as well. However, the promotion will still provide the full amount of time originally promised.

After reviewing the information, tap Next to continue.

Choose Your New Due Date

You will now arrive at the Choose a new due date screen. Your current payment date will appear at the top.

Tap the drop-down menu to see the available dates. Not every day of the month will necessarily be available, which is normal. Chase spaces billing cycles across its customers, so some dates may not be offered.

Choose one of the available dates that works best for your finances.

Choose a Date That Works With Your Paycheck

When selecting a new due date, consider when you normally receive your paycheck.

For example, if you get paid on the 1st or 15th of each month, you could choose a date a few days afterward. A date between the 3rd and 10th may work well for someone paid on the 1st, while someone paid on the 15th might prefer a date between the 17th and 25th.

The goal is to make sure the money is in your account before your credit card payment is due.

You should also avoid choosing a new due date that falls too close to rent or other large recurring expenses. Spacing out your major payments can make your monthly budget easier to manage.

Once you’ve selected your preferred date, tap Next.

Review Your New Due Date Request

Chase will show you a review screen asking, Does everything look okay with this request?

This screen displays important details, including:

  • Your credit card account
  • Your current due date
  • Your requested new due date
  • A reminder that the current month’s payment is still due on the original date

Review everything carefully before submitting the request. Remember that changing your new due date does not give you extra time to make the payment currently due.

If everything is correct, tap Make request to submit the change.

Once submitted, Chase will process your request and apply the new due date according to the information shown in the app.

When Changing Your Due Date Makes Sense

Changing your due date can be useful if your current payment date doesn’t work well with your income schedule.

If you already have AutoPay set up and your credit card payment is made on time every month, changing the due date may simply be a convenience rather than a necessity.

However, if you’ve ever struggled to make a payment because your paycheck arrived after your credit card payment was due, requesting a new due date could make your payment schedule easier to manage.

Aligning your credit card payment with your payday can also help you avoid late payments, which may result in late fees and additional interest.

How Often Can You Change Your Chase Due Date?

Chase limits how frequently you can request a due date change. According to the information provided in the app, you can only change your due date every few months.

Because of this, don’t choose a new due date randomly. Think about your regular income schedule, rent, utilities, and other major expenses before submitting your request.

Choosing a date that fits your budget can make it easier to keep your Chase credit card payments on schedule over the long term.
