Making a credit card payment on Chase is quick and straightforward, and you can complete the entire process directly from the Chase mobile app. Whether you want to pay your statement balance, make the minimum payment, or use an account from another bank, Chase gives you several options.
Here’s how to make a credit card payment step by step.
How to Make a Credit Card Payment in the Chase App
Start by opening the Chase app and going to your main account screen.
- Scroll down to your Credit Cards section.
- Tap the Chase credit card you want to pay.
- Review your current balance, minimum payment due, payment due date, and statement balance.
- Tap the blue Pay card button.
You’ll now be taken to the payment screen, where you can choose how much you want to pay.
Choose Your Credit Card Payment Amount
Chase gives you four options when making a credit card payment:
Statement Balance
The statement balance is the amount you owed at the end of your most recent billing cycle.
If you want to pay your credit card in full and avoid interest on purchases, this is generally the amount to choose. Paying the statement balance in full by the due date allows you to take advantage of your card’s grace period on eligible purchases.
Current Balance
Your current balance includes your statement balance plus any additional purchases you’ve made since the statement was issued.
Paying the current balance in full can bring the balance on the card down to zero, including more recent purchases that haven’t appeared on a statement yet.
Minimum Payment Due
The minimum payment is the smallest amount you need to pay by the due date to keep the account in good standing and avoid a late payment.
However, paying only the minimum usually means you’ll continue to accrue interest on the remaining balance. For that reason, the minimum payment should generally be viewed as a fallback rather than your long-term payment strategy.
Other Amount
If none of the preset amounts works for you, select Other amount and enter the amount you want to pay.
Once you’ve selected your amount, tap Pay today to make the payment immediately. You can also choose Schedule for later if you want the payment to be made on a future date.
How to Pay From Another Bank Account
One useful feature is that you don’t need a Chase checking account to make a credit card payment.
When Chase asks you to choose a payment method, you’ll see the eligible bank accounts you’ve already linked. You can select an account from another financial institution, such as Bank of America.
If you haven’t linked an external account yet, look for the Link an external account option and follow the instructions.
This means you can have a Chase credit card while keeping your checking account at an entirely different bank. You don’t have to manually send money from your other bank to Chase.
Select the account you want to use and tap Next.

Review Your Credit Card Payment
Before the payment is submitted, Chase will show a confirmation screen with the details of your credit card payment.
Check:
- The payment amount
- The payment date
- The account the money will come from
Make sure everything is correct before continuing.
Chase also provides information about payment processing. Payments made later in the evening may be credited for that day while taking additional time to appear in your account. The withdrawal from your payment account generally occurs within two business days.
If you need to cancel a scheduled payment, you can check Payments activity to see whether it’s still eligible for cancellation.
Once you’ve verified everything, tap Make payment.
Confirm Your Chase Credit Card Payment
After you submit the payment, Chase will display a confirmation screen showing that your credit card payment was successfully submitted.
You’ll see details such as:
- Payment amount
- Payment date
- Pay-from account
- Confirmation number
- Payment status
Keep the confirmation number for your records if you want an additional reference. Chase also sends an email confirmation after the payment is submitted.
You can tap Close to finish or select See payments activity to review the payment.

Chase Credit Card Payment Tips
The process is essentially the same whether you’re paying from a Chase account or an external bank account. You can make a credit card payment in just a few steps without needing to visit a bank or manually transfer money first.
For most people, the safest approach is to pay the statement balance in full by the due date whenever possible. That helps you avoid interest charges on eligible purchases while keeping your account current.
Why Autopay Matters
Consider setting up autopay for at least the minimum payment. This provides a backup in case you forget to make your regular payment.
You can then pay the full statement balance manually whenever you’re ready.
Using autopay as a safety net while paying the statement balance in full can help you avoid accidentally missing a payment and potentially facing late fees or negative effects on your credit history.
